Bonnie Bird Collection


Instrumental in the evolution of the Laban Centre into a leading dance education and training school, Bonnie Bird helped to establish the first dance degree course in higher education. This collection, covering the dates 1970-1989, comprises working files and notes, oral history tapes and B&W photographs.

Bonnie Bird Choreography Fund Archive

Bonnie Bird set up the Bonnie Bird Choreography Fund in 1984, which has influenced the emergence of choreographers such as Lea Anderson, Matthew Bourne and David Massingham. The collection comprises administrative files and publicity material, c1991-1999.

Annie Boalth Collection


Programmes, magazines and musical scores of Annie Boalth, a dance student of Rudolf Laban's in Hamburg who went on to teach for the British Drama League and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, applying Laban theory and principles for amateur actors, c1950-1989.

Sylvia Bodmer Collection

Bdomer was a pupil of Rudolf Laban's and one of his solo dancers in Stuttgart and Hamburg in the early 1920s. She came to the UK in the 1930s and founded the Manchester Dance Circle. This collection comprises notebooks in both her and Laban's hand, containing drawings and notes, correspondence and photographs, as well as programmes and newsheets of the Manchester Dance Circle, c1920-1989.

Caryl Brahms Collection


Best known for her collaboration with Ned Sherrin on shows and musicals for the stage, radio and television, Caryl Brahms was also a noted ballet critic for the Evening Standard and Daily Telegraph newspapers. This collection consists of B&W photographs of ballet companies from the 1930s and 1940s.

Peter Brinson Collection

Working files, reports, press cuttings, personal papers, articles, conference papers of Peter Brinson, former Head of Postgraduate Studies at Laban; with a complete record of the activities of the touring company Ballet for All, which pioneered education about classical ballet to the community and which Peter Brinson directed, c1958-1994.

Dance Notation Collection


A key aspect of Rudolf Laban's work was the development of Labanotation, a system which records signs on paper that represent body parts moving in space and time dynamically. This collection holds many original and facsimiles of notation scores, c1960-2005.

The Laban Collection


The research collection of Dr Valerie Preston-Dunlop, world-renowned Rudolf Laban scholar. The collection comprises personal papers, notation scores, photographs, drawings and books of Rudolf Laban (1879-1958) and his associates in Germany, Manchester and Surrey. It covers the dates 1918-2001.

The administrative archive of Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance from its inception on 1 August 2005. The Laban Archive holds mainly records produced by the Faculty of Dance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. The majority of this archive is closed to the public as most files contain corporate or personnel matters. The collection is not sorted or catalogued and is not consistently collected as yet.
